ALL THE THOUGHTLESS STATES ARE NOT SAMADI.

ALL THE THOUGHTLESS STATES ARE NOT SAMADI.

When one enjoys a beautiful scenery, he would become 'thoughtless'.

When one does a heavy physical work, after having a good night of sleep, then exhausted and tired, when he takes a rest, he would become 'thoughtless', and in that rest, without falling sleep.

When one is resting, without anything to do and worry, there would be instances of 'thoughtlessness'.

When one is about to fall asleep, he would become 'thoughtless', even if he tries to 'think'.

When one is asleep, he is 'thoughtless'.

A person who 'knows' music, or one who is well adapt in listening to music, when he enjoys an instrumental, he would note all the 'notes' and their manipulations, without 'thinking or thoughts'.

Like wise, sporting events, etc., are enjoyed mostly by those who are really interested in them, pay attention to them, thoughtless.

But none of these are Samadi. Why? Because some of the attributes of Samadi are not present in these 'thoughtless' states. What are they?

1. Intentional Attention (Manasikaraya) as a skill.

2. One pointedness as a skill.

3. Continues Attention (Sati).

4. A single Object of Attention, leading to continues Cognition.
