TWO TYPES OF SUFFERINGS AND TWO TYPES OF CAUSES OR REASONS FOR SUFFERINGS.

There are two categories of sufferings. In the first, one has a defective body, or a defective mind, which causes Pain in the body and in the Mind, leading to fear, insecurity, doubt, etc., leading to sufferings. But though these are sufferings, they are not real sufferings.

In the second, one's Healthy body is afflicted with a decease or the Healthy Mind is polluted with Defilements, which are the reasons for sufferings. Defilements in the Mind, which are Lust, Anger, Desire, Ego and Ignorance (ideas and opinions) causes Real Sufferings.

If one has a defective body, one is born with or one get such defective body due to an accident, it will cause Pain in the body and agony in the mind. This pain and agony is Suffering. If there is no cure, as is the case most of the time, one has to accept the situation, thus reducing the suffering a little.  

If one has a defective mind, one is born with or later developed into, it will cause mental agony, fear, insecurity, doubt, etc., where it is usually and easily not curable as for mental ailment there is less treatment and medicines. If that parson has some understanding of his situation and can accept the situation as such, sufferings may be reduced to a certain extent.

If one has a healthy body, which is afflicted by bacteria, viruses, or become unhealthy through bad practices, there is a greater possibility of cure, and becoming healthy again, and getting rid of the sufferings and be happy.

If one has a healthy mind, which is polluted by Lust, Anger, Desire, Ego and Ignorance (ideas and opinions), it will cause sufferings. As one cures an Unhealthy body from the affliction of bacteria and viruses, through medicine, one can cure the mind's defilements of Lust, Anger, Desire, Ego and Ignorance (ideas and opinions), through Bhavana (Buddhist practice of Mind Development), and be free from sufferings.

Though one may have Real Sufferings, caused by Lust, Anger, Desire, Ego and Ignorance (ideas and opinions), which are pollutions of the mind, one may not know that he is Suffering most of the time as well as most of the people. That is also the part of the defilement of Ignorance.
