THE OUTCOME OF THE MIND, I.E. AWARENESS, CLOSES OR COVERS THE MIND ITSELF.

When one 'observes' an object, it kicks off the Mind Function, resulting in the Awareness of the object. This happens so fast one cannot see the components of the mind or each and every actions of the Mind's functions, which is known as the Mind.

Mind is -> Sensations of the 'observed' object -> then Cognition of the same -> then related Memory of the same -> then Thinking (Perception) of the same.

The result is the Awareness of the object.

When a match is struck, what we see is the flame as the result. But before the flame, there is abrasion of the match -> heating up -> chemical reaction -> then flame. In the same manner we don't see the Function of the Mind. But become 'Aware' of the object as the result of it.

This Awareness in effect closes or more correctly 'covers' the Mind of its functions 100%.

When one practices Aanapana Sati Bhavana, i.e. the Development of Sati (Skillful Attention) based on Breathing, one pays 'Attention' to breathing. Then all the Awareness which was there vanishes and one only become Attentive of the breathing.

Since, the Awareness is no more, one not only detects the Breathing in Cognitive way partially, but detects the related Thinking as well, and the Thinking on deviant objects as well.

Now these related Thinking  and deviant Thinking are the last part or the function of the mind, which covers the rest of the Mind Functions, except Cognition, which is exposed about 25%.

When one gets rid of deviant Thinking, and maintains only the related Applied Thinking on Breathing, one is established Sati (skillful Attention) and detects the Cognition 50% and the Applied thinking 50%. This is First Jhanic Samadi. Here two of the Mind's functions, i.e. Thinking and Cognition are detected.

When one stops the Applied thinking, one fully (100%) in Sati of the Cognition. This is Second Jhanic Samadi. But the Cognition covers the Sensation fully.

When one stops the Cognition, one is in Sati of Sensation of the Breathing, thus comprehending it fully (100%). This is Third Jhanic Samadi.

When one stops the Sensation, the entire Mind Functions is stopped, thus coming to understand the Mind in its full functional states. This is Forth Jhanic Samadi. Here there is no Mind function, But the Sati (skillful Attention) and Observations continue, which are outside the Mind's Functions. What one 'Observes' is absence of 'objects' here, that is Emptiness. Here, there is "Only observation in the observation".
